TENNIS OFFICIALS COURSES

Tennis Officials Australia (TOA) and Tennis Queensland will be conducting a General Principles of Tennis Officiating Course in Brisbane on 19-20 February.

Also a Referee - Level C2 Course will be held on 20-21 February and a Court Supervisor Level B Course will be held on 21 February.

The General Principles of Tennis Officiation Course is the starting point for all people interested in becoming a Tennis Official (Court Supervisor, Line Umpre, Chair Umpire or Referee).

BRISBANE NIGHT TENNIS ASSOCIATION INC.

The Brisbane Night Tennis Association Inc. conducts Tennis Fixtures throughout Brisbane on Weekday Nights and Saturday Afternoons.

The Brisbane Night Tennis Association Inc. and the Brisbane hardcourt Tennis Association Inc. (formerly the Greater Brisbane Hardcourt Tennis Association) have amalgamated and will operate under the Brisbane Night Tennis Association Inc. name.

2009(1) SEASON FIXTURES

The BNTA offers the Brisbane community a wide variety of competition formats for daytime and night-time Fixtures.

In the First Season of Fixtures for 2009, teams will have a choice of 6 great BNTA competitions:
Monday Night Mixed (starts 16 March)
Tuesday Night Mixed (starts 10 March)
Tuesday Night Special (starts 24 March)
Wednesday Evening Pairs (starts 25 March)
Wednesday Night Threes (starts 18 March)
Saturday Afternoon Pairs (starts 21 March)

Entries close on Friday 20 February for all 2009(1) Season Fixtures. 

Grading Sessions for new teams and individuals will be held on Monday 9 February at the University of Queensland Tennis Centre, Blair Dr, St Lucia (from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.) and on Monday 16 February at the Queensland Tennis Centre, King Arthur Dr, Tennyson (from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.).

BNTA SINGLES TOURNAMENT

The BNTA will be running a Round-Robin Men's Singles & Ladies' Singles Tournament for its members on Saturday night, 21 February, 2009.

This tournament provides a great opportunity for BNTA members to have a hit-out before the start of the 2009(1) Fixture Season.

The tournament will offer events at 4 levels, covering all Fixture grades (Open, A Grade, B Grade & C Grade).  The aim is to complete all events in one night.  Round-Robin formats will be used to ensure all players get multiple matches.

Entries close on Thursday 19 February.

SOCIAL TENNIS

Want to play some regular Tennis while waiting for the next season of Fixtures or do you just want an extra hit? 

Try the BNTA's Thursday Night Social Tennis program which is run at the UQ Tennis Club, Blair Dr, St Lucia.  Thursday Night Social Tennis runs from 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.  The cost for the night is $12 for BNTA or UQ Tennis Club members (and school & university students) or $15 for all others.

The Social Tennis program caters for players of all levels.  Players can attend regularly or occasionally.  Pre-registration is not required.  Check-in is upstairs on the Clubhouse verandah.

The UQ Tennis Club runs a similar Sunday Afternoon Social Tennis program.  Play is from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. (April-September) or 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. (October-March).  The cost is $10 for UQ Tennis Club members or $13 for non-members. 


JUNIOR FIXTURES

The BNTA does not run Junior-only Fixtures.  However, juniors are able to play in BNTA Fixtures provided they are supervised by their parents (or another responsible adult). A number of other organizations do conduct Junior Fixtures. 

The Greater Brisbane Junior Tennis Association Inc. (GBJT) runs Saturday Afternoon Junior Fixtures at the University of Queensland Tennis Centre (Blair Dr, St Lucia) and the Queensland Tennis Centre (King Arthur Tce, Tennyson).

A Sign-On and Grading Day for the 2009(1) Season will be conducted on Sunday 15 February at the UQ Tennis Centre (Blair Dr, St Lucia) from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The 2009(1) Season starts on 28 February and finishes on 13 June.

The University of Queensland Tennis Centre (Blair Dr, St Lucia) conducts Junior Fixtures after school on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Grading sessions will be held on 6 February (5 p.m. to 6 p.m.) for Friday Fixtures and on 11 February (4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.) for Wednesday Fixtures.

Friday Fixtures start on 20 February and finish on 12 June.  Wednesday Fixtures start on 25 February and finish on 10 June.

The Queensland Tennis Centre (King Arthur Tce, Tennyson) will conduct Junior Fixtures after school on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Grading sessions will be held on 10 February for Tuesday Little League Fixtures, 12 February for Thursday Junior League Fixtures and on 6 February for Friday Premier League Fixtures.

Tuesday Fixtures start on 24 February and finish on 9 June.  Thursday Fixtures start on 26 February and finish on 11 June.  Friday Fixtures start on 20 February and finish on 12 June.

WIMBLEDON TICKET BALLOT

Unfortunately, no information is yet available from Tennis Queensland about the 2009 Wimbledon Ticket Ballot for TQ Registered Players.

If the last two years are any indication, the closing date could be anywhere from late February to late March and the information will only be circulated at the very last moment.

Therefore, if you are fortunate enough to be going to England in June/July this year and would like a chance to buy Wimbledon tickets, keep checking the TQ Website www.tennisqueensland.com.au for information about the 2009 TQ Wimbledon Ticket Ballot.
